New Year’s Resolutions: Make 2012 Different
How could it possibly be a new year already? It just seems like yesterday that the new millennium was in front of us, with all its fanfare and predictions, and now we are looking at 2012. Most of us have probably made at least twelve resolutions over the past twelve years, and it is likely that many have made triple that. And, how about the resolutions that we keep making each year, the same ones over and over: e.g. lose weight, stop smoking, exercise, get out of debt and save money. Perhaps, we join in this repetitive activity, or maybe we just give up and decide we have failed so many times, why bother?
One step at a time
Making too many drastic decisions all at once is overwhelming. In fact, it is most likely doomed to failure, resulting in nothing but frustration and guilt, and no one wants either of those consequences. As a business owner, it is a great idea to spread your resolutions out over the year, focusing and implementing one a month. By January 5, 2012, make sure you have reviewed what you have not done, but wanted to do in 2011, and what you did do that worked. Whatever you do, keep doing what worked consistently, without changing it one bit. Never modify something that works. Look at what you have not implemented yet and put in your battle plan to add each idea to a month in the future. Activating this style of plan will give each new action a greater chance of working.
Important details
Along with spreading your resolutions over the entire year, make sure you keep these helpful tips in your mind.
- Design your plans very specifically. Let’s say you want to prospect ten new clients each week. Break it down in little bites and follow through without fail on two each day.
- Write down exactly what you want to achieve with each resolution. Something like…adding an executive office suite in May would create a more professional presence.
- Share what you are doing with everyone you know and post written announcements so you see them often. You will be more likely to accomplish something if you have proclaimed it.
- Enhance each activity with new habits to replace any that you know have sabotaged your success in the past. An example: get more sleep and start your day earlier.
- Set up a reward for keeping your resolution - a vacation is a wonderful prize.
- Be flexible and forgiving, especially to yourself. Guilt will only interfere. If you lapse in you resolution, take a breath and start again.
Manifestation management
Studies show that in both personal and business arenas, managing debt and managing money are at the top of the list when it comes to New Year’s resolutions. If you do have a business, that means cutting expenses. Be sure to consider adding a package from Global Business Centers in your 2012 plans. You could add virtual office space, an executive office, a live receptionist or telephone answering services to that list of things that work, without damaging your budget. Virtual solutions will also help ensure you have plenty of time to implement all your new effective plans. Remember to visualize all your resolutions manifesting as you add each one and the details will fall into place. You still have time to make 2012 the best year ever.
